About the Course
The course HLTFA311A Apply First Aid provides competencies required to recognise and respond to common life threatening injuries or illnesses, including life-support using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and to manage the casualty and incident until the arrival of medical or other assistance. It is more commonly known as Level 2 or Senior Refresher first aid. According to the WorkSafe Victoria Compliance code for first aid in the workplace , this is the minimum acceptable level of training for first aid officers for workplaces. A detailed description of the course can be viewed in the most recent version of the Competency Standard.
You do not have to hold any current first aid qualifications to be able to enrol into this course.
Note: Part of the course includes a video of real CPR and defibrillation. Please inform the trainer at the start of the class if this may be an issue for you.
If you would like to enrol into a class, please select a date from our training calendar to commence the enrolment process. Once you have selected a class date & location, you will need to enter your name, birthdate and contact details.
You will have the option of making payment with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or requesting an invoice to be made to your employer. Note: credit card payment will attract a signficant discount.
A confirmation email will be emailed to you. This email carries important information on your practical session, along with instructions on how to complete the theory study that must be completed prior to the single practical session.
You will need to create an account on our on-line study site and complete 12 modules of study prior to the practical session. We are able to keep the cost of the course down by providing on-line study rather than supplying a paper workbook and reference book.
You must complete the on-line study prior to attending the single 5.5 hour practical session. Once you create your account on our on-line study site, you will have 30 days to complete the work. If you need more time to complete the work, please call us to extend your access.
Students who cannot show proof that they have completed the on-line study on the day of the practical training will NOT be admitted into the class as this is a requirement of the course.
In the classroom, you will need to complete and be assessed as competent in (a) three theory tests and (b) seven practical exercises.
Practical exercises are usually done in groups or pairs and may involve putting people in the recovery position, applying bandages or practicing CPR on manikins on the floor.
Literacy and Numeracy Testing
At the start of the class, all participants will be undergo a short test to make sure that they can comprehend and speak in English in the class.
Participants who cannot pass the short test will be asked to leave the training room and call the office for assistance.
Students have the right to complain about the performance of our administration services or trainers behaviour.
Students have the right to appeal the assessment made by a trainer.
You can view our Complaints & Appeals policy here.
Punctuality. You must arrive at the training room at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled class time to complete enrolment paperwork. Also, at the completion of any breaks, you must return to the classroom before training recommences otherwise you will not be permitted to resume training.
Late arrivals from class start time or from breaks will NOT be admitted into the class.
We recommend that this qualification is renewed every three (3) years from the date of issue, however the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that you update the CPR component of the course annually.
